My mother was a Goodacre descended from Joseph Goodacre who immigrated in 1858 from Ludford Lincolnshire. We have traced him back to James Goodacre and Mary Starbuck who married 12 Feb 1750. Joseph and Elizabeth lived in Neville NSW and had about 12 children, so there are lots of Goodacre cousins in Australia just from that family. Two of them have already signed the guest book. Happy 2003 to all the Goodacres!

Hi! I was directed here by my search for Emily nee Dilks who married a James Goodacre around the mid or late 1860's but I keep drawing blanks apart from her marriages, (she was previously married to a Samuel Cotton but widowed shortly afterwards. My Great grandmother was Emily Goodacre born 1884 who had a few siblings (Alfred, Will, George and Charlotte that I know about) I do not know what happened to their families. I must apologise, I think I should have written this in the genealogy e-mail. Please forgive me. Celia.

Goodacre Family Tree Goodacre is in origin a Leicestershire name. We trace our branch of the family back to Thomas Goodacre who came (back) to the county in 1645. The relevant facts are published in Burke's Landed Gentry. Greetings to all Goodacres from John Goodacre ix (John Duncan Goodacre, now head of the family, as my grandfather Hugh George Goodacre and my father John Hugh Mackenzie Goodacre father have both died) I would love to hear from other Goodacres connected with our family or south Leicestershire!

Still looking in vain for more info on James Goodacre b. 1725 East Leake, UK, m. Mary Starbuck in East Leake in 1750. Happy Christmas to all Goodacres and may Y 2003 be more at peace than 2002. I have changed my e-mail address since I was last in contact. On the origin of "Goodacre" - one reference at the Society of Australian Genealogists Library gave the most likely origin as the Dutch "guid uiker", meaning "Goth Watcher". can't you just see an ancestor standing on top of a watch tower acting as a lookout for the invading Goths. Sounds better to me than the "God's Acre" theory.

My name is Edmund Marco and it's a pleasure to sign your guest book. I work for an advertising agency in London. Our agency represents direct marketing companies that are involved in the marketing of products as seen on TV in England. Most of the infomercial products come from the U.S. but then again we export our talents as well. My brother has appeared in infomercials in the U.S. advertising various products. I think it's hilarious that English people respond so well to American products while Americans tend to respond well to sales people who have an English accent!

My mother was meeting him in London in the years (1956), 1957, 1958. She is german, her name was Linde Ebhardt. After I was born she went back to Germany with me. I would be glad to hear something about the unknown half of my family once in my life. Maybe my father went to Australia after my birth,we never heard from him. Not long ago my mothr told me his name, because I begged her very seriously. If any Goodacre can give me some information, I would be very glad: ihorstmann@aol.com Bye, Isabel

How many times have I heard.." Goodacre, that's an unusual name!...they should visit this website...not exactly Smith, but a healthy representation, nonetheless. We have an Amanda and a Faith and would be happy to hear from anyone else out ther who shares these names. Family ( I'm a Goodacre by marriage) traces back to England with Wilkinson's( of sword fame)and, and Bennets in the family tree. Sir Rupert Brooke(s) figures in there somewhere too. Does this ring familiar with anyone out ther? Would love to hear from you!

I am a member of the Goodacre family that moved to Victoria British Columbia in the 1850's. My grandfather came to Smithers as a young boy after his mother and father divorced . His Goodacre relatives were not close as they remained in the Victoria area some 800 miles south of Smithers in British Columbia. We know a fair bit about this family and did make contact with my late grandfather's cousin who lived in San Francisco. Nice work you've done on your site.

Hi, guess what, I'm a Goodacre too! We can trace our family tree back to the 16th century, to a James Goodacre who set up a charity to buy cows or something like that anyway. I'm hazy on the details. Goodacre comes from God's Acre, which roughly translated means churchyard. Very appropraite as most of my family are in the Church. A note for Susan Goodacre: Rev. Norman Goodacre is my grandfather, my father is his eldest son. My Dad doesn't have e-mail, one of his sisters his brother might, but if you want to e-mail me, I can put you in touch the family. One more note. Does any Goodacre out there have information on the Goodacres from Oklahoma or Missouri, namely George Franklin Goodacre (d 1960) or a Valentine Goodacre (d.1961)? My father was Robert K.Goodacre (b.1939,d.1987) originally from Talequah, Oklahoma. His brother David Francis Goodacre and wife Huanne reside in Cushing, OK. My mother Margaret Cocroft Goodacre, and sister Ellen Goodacre Huggs reside in Shreveport, Louisiana. I also know that my father had a distant cousin, Kenneth Goodacre?, who was living in London, England during the 1970's. Any assistance from any of you Goodacres in the States or "across the pond" would be greatly appreciated. My compliments to the GoodacreWebmaster. This is obviously the best site on the internet!

I am Richard Goodacre and we can trace our family back to John Goodacre of Ashby Parva and Ullesthorpe who lived from 1796 - 1860. His descendants have spread to Uraguay, St Helena, Rhodesia and South Africa and many had church connections. The font in Lutterworth church was a gift from our family in 1891. We have a picture and various references in books about our family together with our family tree if anybody would like a copy then get in touch.

Hi, Just getting used to the internet and have nothing better to do that search for my namesakes! My family go back centuries to Denmark (Godyker) and came over to England to help build dykes (eartworks!!!) in the Norfolk area. My fathers branch of the family moved to Lancashire and were all in the Church, although my father broke that tradition by joining the army (2nd World War) and then joining the League of Nations and then the UN. He travelled to the USA but settled in Geneva Switzerland where I was born with my siser Susan who now lives in Lentilly near Lyon in France and my brother Roger who lives in London, in Putney. I am a criminal lawyer and my wife Valerie and I have a 6yr old son Charles. Must go, catch you all later. John

I'm still trying to contact my English and Australian cousins. My father was Edward Brereton Goodacre (1901-1979), from Lancashire,England, first son of the Reverend Edward Ernest Goodacre who married Helena Elizabeth Marsh. My father had a brother, Randolph (known as Ralph) who emigrated to Australia in the 1920's, and had a huge family. He also had a sister, Marjorie, who had no children. We're related to the Rev. Norman Goodacre (any of his children have E-Mail?). Dad married Kathleen Margaret Ashworth in 1948. I have two brothers, Roger and John, who both live in London. Dad worked as a translator/reviser at the U.N. in Geneva. There, I hope to have some response! Thanks for providing the opportunity to contact other Goodacres...

Hi all Goodacre's Walked into this site today and was very pleasantly surprised. I have tried to source my family here in South Africa and can only go as far back as my Grandfather, Leonard Charles who stayed in OKiep in Namibia, then South West Africa and apparently came out to South Africa with the 1820 Settlers from England. Is there anyone out there who is able to assist me in tracing my family back to either England or Ireland where I believe we originally come from. Lastley I would like to wish all the Goodacre's in this world village of ours, a very successful and prosperous new year and may all their troubles be little ones. Kenneth L. Goodacre

Hi, I'm a 14 year old girl living in Warrington, England. My dad's family are from Hale Barns, Altrincham, just outside of Manchester, and my father, Les Goodacre (born 2-12-43) and my aunt, Margaret (married to Bernard Goodacre) are interested in getting in touch with Brian Goodacre. We think he may have lived in Australia at some point and was one of seven children (the oldest of whom is Kitty) and are the children of William Goodacre (who served in WW1) and Catherine Goodacre. If, by any chance, Brian does stumble across this website, then please can he get in touch at the above e-mail address as the family would like to get in touch.

Its great to find so many Goodacre's My brother Ron is doing the genealogy of the Goodacre's. Our Grand father and Grand mother and 8 of their 9 children came to this country in about 1910 1920 from Farndon Nottinghamshire England which is in the north by the Sherwood forest. They settled in Hillsdale County Michigan and Jackson Michigan. There was 5 male and 3 female with one female remaining in England. William Goodacre was our Great Grand father and he had I believe 5 brothers of whom most came to the US and Canada. Rev. William Goodacre was out great great grand father. His #2 son was John Goodacre #3 son Robert #4 Daughter Mary, #5 Edwin #6 Edward #7 Henry #8 Sarah. With this information do we have any connection? Charles R Goodacre

I haven't done any family history research yet, but may do in the future. I've just retired and am attending a part-time University of Kent course introducing the theory and practice of local history. I took a history degree at University (Cambridge, England) nearly 40 years ago! My father's family lived at Doncaster, Yorkshire, England at the turn of the century, but they've spread all over England since then. I have a box of late 19thC/early 20C photos but not much else at the moment. Following my father's lack of interest in his relatives, I haven't spoken to any of my cousins for a very long time, but may try to do so while the older ones are still around. If anyone has any knowledge of my Great-Grandfather, mark Goodacre(who had a large family) who lived in Doncaster at about the turn of the century I'd be very happy to hear from you. Thanks. We may have a common ancestor, Absalom Coen (18)on Chart #5. I will check my charts to see. I am a descendant of John and William Coens, but diverge at Thomas, I believe. The names seem right, but I thought the family originated in Pennsylvania, not Maryland. My branch moved through Foutain County to Jasper County, Indiana, where the family homestead is now. Like your web site very much. Happy Holidays, Cousin!

Hi Jean, great web site - it's nice to be connected to so many 'Goodys'. I'm Vicky's Dad - see her recent entry regarding Granby and the Slater and Goodacre families. Our bit of the family lived in Newstead Abbey (Lord Byron's home) Nottinghamshire until the 1960's. My grandfather Jack Slater Goodacre and Grandma - Ada Catherine - lived at Knight's Cross, my Uncle Jack at Glenwood and we lived at Westmount, all houses within the Abbey grounds. We now live in Surrey about 14 miles South of London. We have a detailed family tree going back 6 or so generations. Perhaps when I get time I will send it to you. Thanks again for setting up such an interesting site. Clive Goodacre

Hi We're a family of Goodacre's originally from Nottinghamshire England. We can trace our family tree back to the Goodacre and Slater families in Granby Nottinghanshire, where there is a church with a graveyard containing a number of Goodacre's from the 1800's. We were wondering if you have found any connection with this area in your studies. We also have family in NSW Australia. I look forward to hearing from you Vicky Goodacre

I must say I was astonished to find your superb website and to discover that there are so many of us spread across the globe. Mine is the only Goodacre family in Cape Town. I was born in London, England, in 1933 and my wife and I came to Cape Town with our four children in 1966. (She was from South Africa originally.) I have come across two versions of the origin of our name. One has it that Goodacre is derived from God's Acre - the ancient name for a graveyard, which would probably have made our forebears sextons or grave diggers. The other, claims that during the seige of Acre, during one of the Crusades, one of our ancestors, named Guy, distinguished himself and was knighted on the battlefield. He took the title of Sir Guy d"Acre, which eventually became Goodacre. I prefer the second version. Thanks for allowing me to visit. Jim Goodacre

I was born in Hathern, Loughborough, Leicestershire, UK in 1955 and have lived in the US since 1977. My father was born in the same village and the family had been in the area as long as we coild trace. The other villages which have been home to the family are in Nottinghamshire, namely Normanton on Soar and Gotham (yes, the three wise men of Gotham) My father is 78 and the family business J.Goodacre and Co. was started at the turn of the century to ferry gypsum on the canals by means of barges and evolved to become a Haulage Company (big rigs). my cousin Sarah Goodacre Johnson currently runs the company, which was started by her great aunt Jane Goodacre. I have never traced the connections over here although there is a family in Boulder who are real estate agents. I lived 20 years in Houston where for most of the time I was the only Goodacre in the directory. Best wishes

I found your sight doing some genealogy research. Lozier side of family has lived in Hudson Valley area since ? Suspect I am descendent of one of Francois Lozier's son Hillebrand who lived in Kingston. Family probably then moved down Wallkill Valley to Modena/Plattekill area. Only things known for certain is that great......grandfather had farm in town of Newburgh since at least 1860. My father has his draft notice into the Union army. Other forebearers in area were Palmer. One Palmer was head of Ulster county minutemen who built chain across Hudson. If you have any tips about tracing Loziers, I would love to hear from you. She had mentioned your name before and I now found out through Ervin Barrett, another Nowland genealogy researcher, that you had a Web page with references to my family ancestry. I am one of many Goodacres in Australia and the uncle of Neil Goodacre who visited your site late in January. My major interest is in locating information on the birth/christening of James Goodacre who married Mary Starbuck in East Leake, near Nottingham, England on 12th February 1749 or 1750. I have about 1200 descendants of this James and Mary on my database and would be happy to share details with other Goodacres descended from James. Great to have a Goodacre web site - I wish you luck. Nice to see a Goodacre website. I don't know if we are related - my family comes from North-West England, my two brothers, Roger and John, live in London, and we have numerous relations in Australia, to which my uncle Randolph emigrated in the 1920's ! Your guestbook made interesting reading, too. Keep up the good work!

Enjoyed your site. Very Nice. Rocket Propelled Grenade nice initials!!!! The ticker tape is neat except it overwites the Netscape status bar. Russ said you got that from the Sensormatic page. I'll check it out. I also need to figure out the mapping you did on the family picture. cul8tr Doug from GIC/Sensormatic/STI/*.*
